Rainmeter skins can be found on, the developer site where the compiled program and source code can be found, on DeviantArt, and on. It is totally unobtrusive and never slows the system down, even with the fair amount of animation from the meters. Eg a visualizer skin, which uses the AudioLevel plugin, can load the CPU, because these skins are well know to be very “hungry”, while eg a clock or a CPU usage indicator skin doesn’t slow it down. It depends much on your computer and the loaded skins. It allows users to create and display user-generated customizable desktop widgets or applets called “skins” that display information. Rainmeter is a free and open-source desktop customization utility for Windows released under the GNU GPL v2 license.
